Proximal Humerus Fracture
Overview
This is a fracture of the head of the head of the humerus and the surrounding bony prominences.
Causes
This type of fracture can be caused by direct trauma to the shoulder. It commonly affects elderly people whose bones have been weakened by osteoporosis.
Symptoms
Symptoms include pain, swelling and inability to move the arm.
Treatment
Treatment of this type of fracture varies on the severity of the injury. If mild, it could be treated with a sling, but if the bones have been misplaced surgery is necessary.
