Acromioclavicular Arthritis
Overview
Also known as AC joint arthrosis, is a degeneration of the joint at the top of the shoulder where the acromion and clavicle bones meet.
Causes
This mostly affects middle-aged people and is caused by overuse of the shoulder. Occupations such as painting or construction which require repetitive overhead motions, are common culprits.
Symptoms
Symptoms of AC joint arthrosis include pain in the front of the shoulder or over the AC joint, limited range of motion and clicking or popping when the shoulder is moved.
Treatment
Treatment options include anything from physical rehabilitation, cortisone injections and in severe cases, surgery.
