High school volunteer opportunities

At Witham, we know that many of the next generation of caregivers and staff are right here in our own  community, in the midst of their high school careers. We have programs in place that allow high school students to experience internship in a hospital setting, whether they simply want to volunteer and help others or if they are considering a meaningful career in the health care field.

VOLUNTEENS
High School students 18 years or older who qualify through their high school may participate in this internship program! Want to know what it's like to work in an emergency department or on a med/surg floor? Would you like to shadow a doctor or nurse to learn about what they do on a daily basis? If so, then consider joining Witham's Volunteens program. High School students who are 18 years or older are eligible to participate in the Volunteens Program. As a Volunteen, students commit to 48 hours of volunteer service at Witham (over a 6-12 month period). Students also commit to the required Witham background screen, training and health screening requirements. We benefit from your community service, and you build your future college resume and experience the real working environment of a hospital.

To apply, complete a volunteer application click here and fax or email it to the contact listed on the application.

WORK-BASED LEARNING

HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Witham Volunteer Organization sponsors a $1,000 scholarship each year for three Boone County high school seniors who are furthering his or her education in a health care related field. The first half of the scholarship is awarded in August and the second half in December, provided the student remains in the health care field.

Students may pick up a scholarship application and obtain all details and requirements about the program from their high school guidance counselor's office.
